This morning I came back from an awesome trip to Seoul.
I was lucky enough to get on my flight a friend from training, Nathalie which is probably why this layover was so cool!
We started our trip at night, our flight left Dubai at 3:30 am, which means I had to leave my apartment at 00:30. And let me tell you, trying to sleep before is simply impossible, so it is with only 1h of sleep that I left for ICN airport. The flight to get there was about 7 hours. Unfortunatly, it was a bit bumpy the first hour so with little sleep I felt like I was dying! Hopefully on board we have sugar and juices etc... that helped.
When we landed to Korea, we had a 2hours drive to the airport, unnecesary to tell you that the whole crew was asleep on that bus! lol. And then we got to that fabulous hotel! Man, Renaissance hotel is huge and beautiful with concierge and valet... and situated in the Gangnam area!
With Nathalie we decided to sign up for a tour the following morning and go get something to eat. We went back to the hotel at 10pm and for the first time in my life I fell asleep with the lights on, the tv on, my computer ON on my knees etc... I didn't even realized I was falling asleep. Fortunatly for me I sleep very well on layover! We're so well in those hotel, the beds are awesome! I don't sleep that well in Dubai through...
Anyhoo, the following morning, we left the hotel at 7:30 am to go to D.M.Z. (the De Militarized Zone) the border zone between North and South Korea. One of the last Wall in the world to separate two countries. It appears that more people than I thought don't know about the current situation of North Korea. It is not a nice country let's say. It is a real true old fashion dictatorship.
this is freedom bridge. It is by that bridge that the last war prisoners left North Korea to come back to the south. A real symbol for Koreans

far away mountains are North korea. They're easy to find because they are the ones without any tree because they used them to heat themselves!

North Korea is a single-party state under a united front led by the Korean Workers' Party (which has an "eternal president"!). The country's government follows the Juche ideology of self-reliance
North Korea is described as a totalitarian, Stalinist dictatorship with an elaborate cult of personality around the Kim family and one of the lowest-ranking human rightsrecords of any country. In 2011 North Korea had the lowest Democracy Index of any nation on Earth. North Korea is one of the world's most militarized countries, with the 4th largest army in the world, after China, the U.S, and India. It is a nuclear-weapons state.
It was very instructive, especially on how much South Korea wants a reunification! They really believe it could happen soon and they're ready for it. But seeing as North Korea has Nuclear power and some missiles are pointed toward Seoul, I don't know how realistic that is... anyhoo here are some pictures!
And thank you so much to my company to give us such awesome opportunities!
This is the peace Bell. She is often rung by Koreans who want to see the reunification.

it was so cold that we could stand on ice! Ice... we forget it's cold in other places of the world!
Everywhere you go you see this sign "don't come closer, don't take picture".

to take picture from the observatory, you couldn't go further than this line... and they were very strict about that. and you'll see the picture that you get at the end!
here is the picture! Can you see North Korea? lol
After the war, North Koreans dug tunnels in order to attack the South. Those tunnels were discovered by fleeing ingeneers! Those tunnels were full of weapons, ready to let through an Army. The most recent one was discovered in 1990! And as our guide told us, there's probably a lot more tunnels than the 4 they discovered! (we pose in front of the 3rd tunnel).

I had to take a picture in front of that in the Gangnam area where our hotel was! Seriously, Oppa Gangnam style! ;)
