First flight // premier vol

Hello again! I came back this night from my first flight! How awesome was that?! I think I should describe it all so that future cabin crew wouldn't be as freaked out as I was! lol

I was of course far too early to sign in at the gate, but it was a good thing as my egate wouldn't work as it was brand new and I had to get a paper from immigration so that I could go on my flight. Then I had to register my layover bag and I was off to the briefing room.

As I was flying on a A380,  the crew was already in the room. The purser checked I had all the compulsory papers such as my vaccination booklet or my passport (we have about 6 different papers to have). And then we started the safe talk. I was so stressed about that! Safe talk is a question every crew gets on safety, security or GMT. We have to get it right, it is to ensure we are up to date with our knowledge. But sometimes, these questions are tricky! I was happy, because the safe talk was conducted in small groups by the Purser or one of the Senior crew (SFS). And I did know the answer to my question so I felt good, but for my friend who was also a suppy with me, I didn't know the answer to his question! Now I do!!

And then, the flight deck came to introduce themselves, told us about the weather and the time of the flight and we left for the bus to take us to the plane.
When we entered the plane, everybody knew where to go and what they had to do, except us of course! lol but the crew was awesome, there was always someone to tell us what to do, give us small tasks or just show us in details what they were doing. I did appreciate that a lot.
Priviledge of a suppy (first flight), we go to do the ground tour of the plane with the First Officer. It was really impressive. You get to see what ingeneers do on the ground  and what the pilots check so that we can take off safely. And the A380 is massive!! With my uniform and my heels it was not the most confortable thing to do ;)

Then we went back inside the plane and got to enter the cockpit. Because of security measures, the cockpit doors closes pretty early and in order not to bother the pilots, we were seated quiet early, because indeeeeeeed as suppy we get to take off and land in the cockpit! To be very honest, it was not as much fun as I thought it would be, but my batchmate was over excited it was cute! He wants to be a pilot so he couldn't keep his smile off. Personaly, especially for the landing in Manchester I was really tired and was fighting not to fall asleep on my jumpseat! But the pilots were kind enough to give us headsets to listen to them and to the towers, that was really cool. They speak in codes and all. it's hard to keep up!

I am not going to bore you with every details of the flight, but I got to participate in the service, and in a way it reminded me of my job at Macdonald's. The service goes in the same way, you can do small things for the passengers such as an extra chocolate bar, something else to drink, and the way we handle everything always refering to your seniors. I really like this kind of job, team work. :) and I get to laugh with my colleagues and passengers, what more to ask?

A confusion happened with our crew meals during the flight between the two galleys, so my SFS (senior crew) took us up to Business class to have something to eat. And let me tell you, I had the best cheese platter of my life! Maybe because I was really hungry or maybe because it is actual real French cheese, but man I was happy! lol. You can't hide your French blood when your face lights up when you find real good cheese! lol Being around so many nationalites I realize how deeply French  I am in some ways. It's really funny because I didn't feel that strongly back home.

The lay over was fun. We stayed in a Marriott hotel, with an awesome breakfast buffet (and a really talkative filipino chef :) ), the room was really cosy and warm and the bed was so good! we had some free English channels on TV, I admit, I channel hoped  a lot, I do miss tv.
I got to go grocery shopping quickly with two other crew. (Oooo Tesco, how did I miss you!) I think there is something wrong when you're happy to see a whole aisle of pork with people in it! And the pork actually looked good, because in Dubai, you can find pork, yes but you feel so damn guilty entering this "non muslim only" section and the little over price pork you can find doesn't look yummy at all! So I was really happy, and bread!! :) lol sorry I get overexcited over little things!

anyhoo, it was a great flight! :) I did get a little joke as it was my first flight. When we left the aircraft to go to the hotel we were staying at, we took a crew bus, which means about 30 people including the pilots. The bus got stopped at the customs and a man entered the bus. He then asked "is there a Clemence here?" and this is the part you freak out! let me tell you, when they all turn to look at you, you start to make a list of all the things you packed in your suitcase, thinking "oh shoot! I packed something illegal here!" or something broke and leaked... lol, and then the custom man said "I'm sorry miss, there's been a problem with the hotel, it's been overbooked, so as you're the most junior of the crew, you'll have to come home with me". big laugh from the crew of course. lol. I was actually so relieved that it was not to do with my luggage! lol that's good natured. :)

Next flight tomorrow morning on the B777!

Now, time for my next flight! ;)
SuperChat in my room! :) // SuperChat dans ma chambre

Fish and chips! (far too greasy, I couldn't finish it! now I remember why I didn't eat it when I lived in Brighton!)

Now next to the Bible placed there by the Gideons, you find the Book of Mormon? Oh Marriott, what happened to you?

Prochain vol demain matin sur B777!
